The article highlights the experience of EU countries concerning sex education of pupils in secondary schools, their preparation to future family life and responsible parenthood. In particular, special attention is paid to the study of the experience of leading EU countries like Scandinavia, where the quality of sex education is generally recognized worldwide and characterized by open views on issues of sexuality. The system of adult family life and responsible parenthood in Poland has transformed from an optional to mandatory self-employment subject, overcoming many obstacles. The organization of sex education and preparation of youth for family life at present is determined by a competence approach, which is aimed at developing pupil’s desire for spiritual and physical perfection, the capacity for self-organization, self-management, and the ability to communicate with people of the opposite sex. Sex education in Germany is the primary means of promoting marriage and family. The knowledge gained by students as a result of sex education is aimed at developing children and youth’s perceptions of responsible partnership, respect both to himself and the other sex, mutual understanding and mutual assistance in their future marriage. The Department of Education and Science of the United Kingdom has issued a document to start the courses on sexual education of pupils and prepare them for future parenthood through a multidisciplinary and integrative approach for students of certain ages. All positive aspects of European countries’ experience on sex education are recommended to be introduced into the practice of the national education.
